Final Fantasy IV Alter Destiny
A downloadable Final Fantasy IV for Windows
Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.
This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.
I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

since its a what if. does cecil stay a dark knight too?!
It'd be spoilery to say here, so I'll just say that there's a bit of twist on that. All I can really recommend is to play the game, and you'll find out. :)
aight :o sad that rydia is gone tho ,_,
ok so um the delta sisters froze my game with thier attack.
Hmm... That's a first time error. Try this. Do a restart of your system, then try the fight again. If it happens again, let me know. Sometimes, if you've been playing a VX Ace game for awhile, it throws up weird errors until you've rebooted.
thing is i pressed F12 and it unfrozed the game but the battle UI stayed after the battle. had to save and reset to remove it.
also i cant beat the 4 elementals. can barely manage to heal. im at the passage of the giant. now that i think about it wasent the game supposed to have up to 5 party members and not 4 ? =.= also i cant seem to reach the first weapon in the lunar castle underground. where to i go to get it?
(edit) i beated the post game but i cant go back cause the area from safer platforms are impossible to cross back afterwards so im kinda stuck :<
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, to answer your earlier questions:
- F12 is incompatible with RPG Maker software for the most part which is why you were getting that error.
- The OG FF IV did have 5 party members, however in Alter Destiny, you only get 4 for story reasons.
- Yes, once you make a save past the 7th area (after jumping across the platforms) of the Lunar post-game area you won't be able to go back. It's advised to make multiple saves before you get to that point.
- The first weapon in the Lunar Subterranean can be found virtually the same way in the OG, by following a particular path.
Congrats on beating the post-game! :D I hope you enjoyed it.
My question is.. what are you making it in?
Do you mean creating the remake of this game or what the engine for this game is? This one was made in RPG Maker VX Ace and has been completed for quite a few years now. If you're asking about a remake, then I can tell you that it'd be done in either MZ or perhaps an engine capable of HD2D-like graphics like Bakin. Might have to experiment with that. :)
Very nice. I like the story and the quality.
This is bad ass...
Thank you so much!
Any tips on how to beat the 3rd boss post-game in the lunar world? My team is nearly level 60. bad breath and beam after 3 rounds wipes out the entire party.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, domerdel. That's a pretty tough boss even at those levels, but what you'll want to do is be sure you have the ribbon on that you can get from the main story's final dungeon (along with the best armor for the rest of your party), haste your healer soon as possible, and just keep everyone healed as much as possible while pouring on the damage.
Might take some RNG luck, but persevere, and you'll get through.
It's been 5 years since the release, but I'm today years old for discovering this version. I'm about half way through. Really dig the difficulty modes. Great fan version of this game. Highly recommend.
Thank you very much! I might remake this version in a newer engine one day, but we'll see.
If by chance you remake in a newer engine, would love to have the user able to change graphic Anti-alias settings, auto-run (faster walking) and a mini map when exploring the overworld would be great. Maybe even a few bonus dungeons inspired by FFIV Ultima (emulation hack)
I'll definitely keep that in mind! I've got a few ideas about what a remake of this fangame might look like.
