A downloadable Alter Fantasy for Windows

Heavily inspired by Final Fantasy IV and my own fangame Alter Destiny, I'm trying my hand at creating an original game within the basic framework of FF IV's pacing/event structure. Many of the maps are also very similar (near exact in some cases) to FF IV's, since it's one of my favorite RPGs. This game is basically what I imagine an indie version of Final Fantasy IV to be like with an original story. In other words, this is what I think an indie-created Final Fantasy IV would have been like if Squaresoft hadn't made it. I've also tried to replicate and in some ways improve on FF IV's battle system and even the experience mechanics. The full game will be available completely free.

THE ROAD TO REDEMPTION

Long has the Empire of Arahn ruled with fairness and grace, its military might backed up with its powerful fleet of airships. That is, until recently. Rumors abound that the Empress has changed somehow, that she harbors dark ambitions of some sort. Enter Dame Adira, a Fell Knight of the Empire tasked with suppressing a burgeoning rebellion led by an enigmatic former general of Arahn named Fynn.

Adira's loyalties will be tested, machinations will be unveiled, and what erupts goes beyond imagining for those of the world of Terra...

  • Quick ATB battle system to make battling enemies a breezy experience
  • Overworld mini-map
  • Enemy Encounter Gauge
  • 3D scenes and some maps as well
  • If you're familiar with Final Fantasy IV, you'll feel right at home with this game.
  • New Game+ mode that features a new cast of characters and story content that will make you feel like you're playing a second game.

Alpha Demo Notes:

Approximately 1 to 1.5 hour's worth of gameplay
You may encounter a bit of lag when first loading 3D maps depending on your PC's specs. You can adjust your 3D rendering settings in the Options menu.
PS4 controllers work great with the game and it's encouraged to play with a gamepad.
The rumble feature on the PS4 controller is now fully functional for certain scenes.
Xbox One controllers have not been tested, but should work as well.

There should not be any major bugs as I thoroughly tested the deployed version, however if you do encounter them please let me know.

Keyboard Controls are standard RPG Maker (Z, X, Arrow Keys)

Hi Spheresoft :)

I just finished to play your latest update, it was nice to go further than the last time I played, Yelani is funny, I did not even thought about what kind of person would take the place of Tellah 😄

Thank you for playing the latest updated demo Anwynn! :)

I was hoping that Yelani's personality would come across. I'm looking forward to bringing you all the complete game sometime this year hopefully.

I understand it takes time to make, do not worry :)

Was it made in MZ? I want to know the plugin that was used to allow the options for magic spells to select one or multiple targets.

Yes it was made in MZ. And the plugin is called Select Multiple Targets by Zevia. It's a great plugin! :)

Ooh, where can I get that plugin?

Oh I don't remember which forum it was in. It's a free plugin, so you'll have to do a google search to find it. It's how I found it.

Hi mate, it's TD Games / Ryan C.

I really enjoyed your game. It reminded me a lot of FF4, and the story and battles were very well done. Very polished and professional, and I encountered no bugs.

The maps were very nice, with interesting tilesets and layouts.

The UI felt very clean and fresh, nothing confusing or difficult to read and/or understand, and I really liked the windowskin you chose.

The characters were really cool too. I like Adira's flurry skill, and the ability to choose multiple targets for spells was pretty unique. Johan was my favourite character!

Overall I really enjoyed your game, mate. I am looking forward to the update!

Thank you so much for the feedback! Glad to hear you enjoyed the demo! :D

I'm hoping to have the game done by sometime this year. Things have been hectic for the past several months, but I'm about ready to get back on it and do some serious game dev to get this one done. Johan's one of my favorites, too.

It's only been a couple weeks since I played this demo and I'm already here looking for updates because I want to play more XD Once again, super awesome game, really enjoyed doing a video on this! I'll keep checking back in the future, I'd like to do a series on the finished game one day :)

(And I hope sharing the video here is okay with you, I'm hoping people seeing it will get more to download it!)

I'm totally down with people sharing their videos and feedback on here! It means a lot that you're already looking for more Alter Fantasy content, and it would be amazing to see you do a series on the finished game! I'm so glad you're enjoying it so much! I'm working on it as we speak. I'll probably update the demo one more time once I've got a few more hours' worth of content and that'll be the final demo until I complete the game when I'll upload the full release. The hope is that early 2023 at some point the game will be finished. :)

Less than a year but sounds like so much and so little at the same time :') I hope it goes well, can't wait to check out the extended demo!

Heya! Wanted to let you know that  if you use Discord you should promote that you play indie games on a few RPG Maker/Indie servers I'm part of. Really love your content and I think more devs would appreciate you playing their games. HMU on there I'm Notvery Soft#1916 and I'll invite you.

Aweosme! I was thinking about making a Discord account for the channel and this gives me a good reason :) I'll message you on there soon!

Hi Sphere :)

Great demo of your game based on final fantasy 4 :)

Must have taken time to make the maps like the original.

Good characters and Johan taking the role of Rydia was unexpected ahah, I am guessing you made every characters the opposite gender?

Looking forward to your next update :)

Thanks Anwynn for the kind words! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It did take a lot of time to make the maps close to the original without relying on any ripped graphics. I hope that it conveyed well. And yeah, I generally flipped the gender script for the FF4 characters to some extent, but this all ties into a huge subversion and twist that I hope nobody sees coming.

I'm working pretty steadily on it on my days off, so I'm hoping to put up a huge update to the demo by the end of July or so with new story content, locations, etc. Thanks again for the feedback! :)

World Map looks amazing. Well done. I will surely give your game a try. :)

Thanks so much! Looking forward to getting a demo out to you all sometime in the next few weeks. :)
